About Us
What do we do?
C'mon everybody run courses for parents and children, to promote parenting skills and children's social and emotional competence.C'mon Everybody was set up in Sheffield in 1989. There are three other members of the team ; Fiona Brown, Sue Howard and Ann Ives. All of them have a vast range of skills and experience in this field. As a result, we are able to provide a professional and therepeutic service that is second to none.
We can run a variety of family support projects, providing a flexible service aimed at supporting the individual needs of families. Since 1996 we have worked specifically on the Webster-Stratton Parenting Programme, a method developed by the University of Washington.
You can get more information about this programme on IncredibleYears.com. this also includes information on Dinosaur school; a programme to promote children's social and emotional competence through the use of puppets,Wally, Dina, Molly and Freddie. Ideally run in parallel with the parenting course.
All our team are accreditated and experienced Webster-Stratton practioners. We have a range of professional backgrounds in the social work and education field. We have particular expertise in behaviour management of children and young people.
Enrolments
As part of the Early Years service we are now able to offer free parenting courses city wide, in areas where a children's centre is located. Courses may be held in local schools or other appropriate venues to suit families' needs. Whenever possible we endeavour to provide creche facilities.
How to Enrol?
You can enrol by contacting us directly on 0114 2312731 or fax us on 0114 2312819 with your details. There is also an online enrolment form.
What happens next?
Once we have received your details we will contact you to advise when/where the most appropriate course will be in your area (see latest news section for new groups)
We try to respond quickly to all enrolments. We know that there can be long waiting lists for services for parents and young people in Sheffield and this can cause people anxiety and stress.
Parenting courses
Everyone can benefit from our courses. They are very much a collaborative effort, with people sharing good practice and supporting each other, rather than having a 'teacher' directing things.
We offer a 12 - 18 week course.
From September 2010, we will be integrating our Booster group programme into our annual rolling programme of parenting courses. Research by Professor Webster-Stratton indicates that some parents find this really useful after a period of a few months away from the formal group meetings. Essentially, it can be a refresher course as well as a sharing of successes and challenges. We anticipate that these will run for between 3 to 4 weeks.
Working with schools (Dinosaur School)
We work closely with a number of nursery and primary schools. This happens in two main ways:
- Social skills training (Dinosaur Curriculum) for whole groups in nursery and reception classes.
- Social skills training (traditional Dinosaur School) for small groups of youngsters withdrawn from primary school (two hours per week) - parents attend their own class over the same period.
Our sessions include topics such as building self-confidence; feelings; anger management and relaxation; how to make and keep friends; and recognising and solving problems. We adapt content and teaching methods to suit the needs, age and development level of the children.
